the day after

After church we had a pot luck dinner. We had fathers, grandfathers, and not yet fathers. Usually the women and children go first, but on fathers day they went first. It is so funny to see them go first...you would have thought they had won something wonderful. The young men and little boys also went with the fathers. Again their little faces were just glowing.

The men of the church help teach the young men and boys to be respectful and let the women and girls eat first. They wait their turn and learn a good lesson . But they were in hog heaven yesterday. You wouldn't think that they would get such a joy by going first but they knew the joy of eating first if only for one day.

It is HOT...it hurts just by being in the sun just for a few minutes. My poor plants are taking a beating, I just can't keep enough cool water on them. No rain in sight. I have to get out to do some running around..I am putting it off as long as I can!

May have the girls down this week. Yah, can't wait. What a joy they are! And so much fun to be around. They can't get here quick enough.

The 4th is coming...Cooler temps. would be appreciated but if not the house will be cooler till the sun goes down.

middle of the week

Just made it in from watering. To do it right it takes a long time. Everything is growing very well. I picked my first vegs. today, Yah!

It is supposed to rain today...it sprinkled just enough to make the car dirty, UG.

I have started to exercise again, I will be glad when my body gets used to it! Can't do much but every little bit will help , I hope.

Bailey came in to me yesterday, and she had red coming from her mouth and on her chin hairs. I panicked, did she swallow something that cut her mouth , was she bleeding from her stomach? A million thoughts went through my mind in a matter of seconds also could we afford the vet. bill. I went into the hall and there I found a red jello pkg. that had fallen off the pantry shelf...I was so releaved , it was hard to correct her(I did very sternly). When I told dh, he just laughed at me. Later, she got up on him and burped , he said "smells like jello". So glad he was having fun with it.

My body says, take a nap, my work says no. Oh well, tomorrow is another day.

Is it bedtime yet?

Well, I have had a busy day. I've been practicing giving a food demonstration for our women's group. I am doing cucumber sandwiches(boy do I love these) If you haven't tried them, you really need to. Then I'll make a peach salsa, again you need to try it. It is good with pork, chicken or fish. We will be using chips. Then I will have them try stuffed apricots(cream cheese base). Everyone is such good cooks, I didn't think I could teach them anything so I went with things that they might not try without eating it first.

July 4th is coming fast, and I don't feel like the spirit is with everyone. Everyone is so busy I hope it's just a relaxing, fun filled vacation. Sure hope if they don't want to come they will let me know. I'll cry but then I'll put on my big girl panties on and go to bed.

Garden is growing, the rain really did help. The pen is getting smaller and smaller...they look like they are trying to stake out their own territory.
Hope I have some vegs. by the 4th.

Found some different ice cream to make. Should be fun.

Need to get the laundry in the dryer , hate to heat up the house before the temp. goes down.

Hope this evening is quiet and Bailey doesn't want to go out so I can get ready for bed. Nice thought but don't think it will happen.

A thought

"The invitation to repent is rarely a vioce of chastisement but rather a loving appeal to turn around to 're-turn' toward God. It is the beckoning of a loving Father and His Only Begotten Son to be more than we are, to reach up to a higher way of life, to change, and to feel the happiness of keeping the commandments. Being disciples of Christ, we rejoice in the blessing of repenting and the joy of being forgiven. They become part of us, shaping the way we think and feel"

get it done

After much thinking , I realize that I think too much. I got up today and looked at what needed to be done, and the first thing that I thought was, "how do you eat an elephant?" "One bite at a time."
Now my house isn't an elephant but you have to start some where...so bite by bite I will get things done.
My squash was looking so wilted yesterday I thought it was a goner. But this morning when I went out, there they were, standing up straight with their large leaves turned up like they were praiseing God for the rain and cool weather. What a sight to see.
Now, it has stopped raining and is hot. Guess what ,they are wilted again...hope they hang in there till I get some veg. from them.

Haven't seen my son since he had his radiation. He was sure looking so pale and ashen. I don't think I looked like that when I went through all the things you do so you can live a long healthy life. I wish the VA would treat their vet.s with more care. It is a shame that in the U.S. we can't give our young men and women who have served our country the same measure of care that the general population gets. Why doesn't our government do something. They can give to other countries and run up the debt but they can't take care of our vet.s.

Well of to water the front flowers...the only good thing is I get just as wet as the flowers do, and it is hot out so it should feel good!

deadhead

It is amazing that as I'm going to bed and think of everything that needs to get done the next day, I am excited to make a dent on what is staring me in the face.
Then I get up....................it is like pulling teeth to get me motivated.
You would think I have a little fairy doing my things for me. She has to be very small 'cause I never see anything she has done. I don't want to hurt her feelings but she is not holding up her end of things. Perhaps she needs to call in her whole family. I would pay for the call.

Ok, I can't put off doing my work anymore. Actually, I can't think of anything to talk about. So I will act busy in hopes of things looking better.

garden

I'm always excited when it gets time to plant veg. and flowers. Planting them and praying my hard work will pay off.
Then the first peeks through and the waiting game begins.
The watering in hot weather, sweating, and fertilizing it.
They were growing slow...I did plant early..I hate to wait for the weather to turn hot.
But then the hot weather began and it took off.
I planted watermelon and cantaloupe(even though I have never had good luck with growing them.) They didn't come up so I planted the plants. Also, I forgot where I planted them so I just guessed and planted more.
Well, seeds started growing...now I don't know if I have watermelon or cantaloupe growing in separate places or all together. They are started to vine out. Oh, the surprise of gardening!
The cucumbers, and the other vining veg. are starting to vine out and has blooms on them. Yah? The tomatoes and peppers have babies on them. They are so cute.
The blackberries that we planted are growing oh so slowly. Only one isn't growing. I will send it back for a new one. It sounded like we might have berries the first year. Can't wait!

Only a few weeks and it will be the 4th of July. I wait the whole year for the fun to begin. And always pray for the safety and fun to be had by everyone. Of course just having everyone here is the best gift they could give us.
We have all started looking and thinking of what food to have. So fortunate that the girls and Ron pitch in with all their ideas. It sure makes it fun for me.
It sure would be nice to go to the garden to get the food we need to eat!

We plan to put up the pool next week...no rain please!
Sure would be nice to have the kids in June but not sure if that will happen.

The peach trees that were so beautiful this spring with their huge flowers are loaded with fruit. Some peaches fall off with each rain or wind. But there are so many peaches we have to take them off so they don't break the branches. That just kills me...I know it has to be done but I sure want peaches in the fall.

I will tell everyone that planting your veg. in potting soil really works!!!!!!!!! No weeding and no plowing up the ground. When all the veg. are done for the season, we will just turn them over and add to the dirt. Or maybe leave them till next year...not sure yet. Now sure why we can't use them again next year..I will have to investigate that one.
